On November 13th, Beacon Guild welcomed an Operatic Trio of Helen, Susan and Michael – who were to give a wonderful hour of musical entertainment. The evening began with a glass of non alcoholic beverage on entering the hall which was lovely. A few visiting ladies from other guilds in the area swelled the numbers to an impressive 17. The evening commenced with a duet from Helen and Susan from Figaro by Mozart followed by Susan’s solo from the Novello Kings Rhapsody. The audience were then treated to several other renditions: including La Rondine by Puccini and songs from Oklahoma & The Pirates of Penzance followed by of The White Cliffs of Dover (with audience participation) made famous by Dame Vera Lynn of course, before a well deserved refreshment break.
After we had taken the raffle which raised £51.00 – for a charity of our guests’ choice – we continued with the second half of the concert. This part included pieces from Offenbach, Gilbert & Sullivan, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Liza Hehmann. There was great amusement when we were asked to join in “Edelweiss” as many of us were remembering the Girlguiding “action” version of this and then we finished with “Three Little Maids ” from the Mikado. The evening was a resounding success and enjoyed by everyone.
To cap the night off, at the end of the meeting two of our members, Val & Jacqui – were presented with their SILVER VOYAGE AWARDS by our County Chair, Carol – Many congratulations to them both.
