A short history

Beacon District Trefoil Guild was first registered at headquarters on 20th November 2012, although our first meeting was held on 17th October of that year. Our first chairperson – Judy, and Treasurer – Pat, are still very much active members of the guild. We started with 7 members initially and this has now risen to 18 fairly regular members.

Activities

Talks & presentations

Including one about the Girlguiding COCO project, the RNLI, the Women’s Land Army, Shepherds of the South Downs, Farming in the 50’s, the RDA and AMAZE, bats, bees, makeup and cosmetics, to name a few!

Musical evenings

Including handbell ringing, an evening with a Ukulele Band, carol singing and campfires.

Days Out

These have included Bowling, Croquet, Skittles, a walk around Plumpton, trip to Danny House, ghosts walk, picnic & walk at Jack and Jill Windmills, afternoon teas, meals out of various types and we also went along to Wakehurst for carols and hot drinks at Christmas with other Guild members around the tree:

During 2020

We started the year with a Kindertransport talk when we discovered that a Ladies Convalescent Home in our area run by a Jewish Friendly Society. was used to accommodate the refugee children that arrived in West Sussex.

Our Cabana

Then we had a talk about a Girlguiding task force who went to Our Cabana in Mexico to help refurbish a new school for local children in a deprived area of the country and raised some money for the charity involved by holding a raffle.

September

In September, a few of us had a very windy picnic at Jack and Jill Windmills on the South Downs and more recently this year, some of us have been keeping in touch with online zoom meetings: so far, we have managed a talk about genealogy, and a bingo evening.
